Re: Wojnar Letter Date: Mon, 1 Feb 1999 09:18:28 EST From: EdwBlock@aol.com To: jking1@mediaone.net, avanderwal@compuserve.com CC: sampson@iinet.net.au, PAPCECST@aol.com, clittle@cari.net, rosebush2@hotmail.com, BabsF342@aol.com I think everyone should be aware that the Wojner letter and the 1988 Congressional letter were not the result of them being pro-active. In 1988 I briefed Congressman John Dingell's Committee on wire problems thus his letter to the FAA. In 1992 I briefed the Transportation Dept of GAO that resulted in the Wojner letter as well as the one from Susan Coughlin to address the concerns I raised. I am the private citizen referred to in John Andersen's letter to the NTSB and FAA. I also got a joint task force created in Jan95 with the NTSB and FAA after briefing the NTSB in 94 on wiring problems. I am not blowing my own horn (PP), but unless you understand what generated these letters it doesn't make sense. The responses from the task force came in NOV 96 stating that per the NTSB's FEB 96 reply( with Boeing and McDonnell- Douglas respnses attached) there was no problem with wiring in commercial A/C. I then approached the White House Commission on Aging A/C to make wiring an issue. They did and gave the job to the FAA. I briefed the novice the FAA assigned and he turned in his report 6/98. If not for sr111(wiring), it would never have been released 10/98. The assignment of me to the FAA Task group was not a choice on their part. They tried to limit the assessment phase to the ATA's already completed (since 6/98,no coicidence) w/o mentioning type. I called for and w/NASA and Canadian support, got wire type to be the issue in these inspections. The Chairman and FAA Director have been formally requested to allow me rather than solely Industry representatives to be a part of that specific task group. The ball is in their court. ED BLOCK |
