DALLAS An independent federal whistle-blower probe says it's
found a coverup by air traffic controllers in Texas. The
investigation of the D-F-W Terminal Radar Approach Control
concludes controllers routinely hid errors and their
supervisors failed to investigate instances in which planes
flew too close to each other.
The D-F-W facility handles air traffic at all of the
region's airports, including Dallas-Fort Worth
International.
The probe by the government's Office of Special Counsel
dates back over the past seven years and was prompted by a
complaint from one of the controllers. She says she was
afraid planes were going to collide.
Reports in Los Angeles and Boston this morning say planes in
those cities have had recent close calls, too.
The Federal Aviation Administration says it takes
"immediate and thorough" action on violations.
