Gulf Air to reinforce its flight safety program with Teledyne Controls'
Wireless GroundLink and AirFASE

Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Gulf Air intends to use Teledyne's Wireless GroundLink to enhance and strengthen its flight safety program.

Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink (Wireless Quick Access Recorder - WQAR) will enable Gulf Air to automate the recording and transmission of their flight data and therefore reducing risk of data loss involved with traditional manual procedures. The system will be utilized with AirFASE®, a flight data analysis and reporting software tool jointly developed by

Teledyne Controls and Airbus, and recently installed at Gulf Air. The Wireless GroundLink system will perform the data recording task, along with the secure and seamless transmission of the data to a ground station with AirFASE; the latter will fulfill the flight data replay, analysis and reporting functions. Used in conjunction, the two systems are designed to provide the Bahrain-based carrier with an end-to-end automated solution for data retrieval and analysis.

'The product has been installed on a trial basis onboard an A320 aircraft of the Gulf Air fleet', said Gulf Air's Vice President of Operations Captain Hameed Ali. 'The installation is showcased at the Dubai Air Show, currently being held at the Airport Expo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, until November 24, 2005.'

'We hope the new system will help increase the accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of data collected for Gulf Air's Safety Management System,' added Captain Hassan Al-Mousawi, Gulf Air's Flight Safety Manager.

'We are very excited to collaborate with Gulf Air on their flight safety effort and are confident in the success of this trial,' said Jean-Louis Lugan, Teledyne Controls' Director of Sales and Service for the Middle East region. 'Wireless GroundLink has proved to be a highly reliable solution and has been successfully implemented at numerous airlines' worldwide. Gulf Air is the first airline in the Middle East to acquire the system.'

A significant element in safety management and aircraft maintenance programs, Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink is designed to provide aircraft operators with an immediate, reliable, and cost-effective solution for data recording and transmission. Offering unprecedented reliability, the GroundLink system records and wirelessly transfers flight data from the aircraft to the ground, without any human intervention. The raw data recorded during flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the Internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis. Using the Teledyne Wireless GroundLink system, airlines can significantly reduce data delivery delays (the data is available within 10-15 minutes after an aircraft has landed, versus several days or weeks with manual data retrieval). Additional operational benefits are realized since human resources, equipment costs and data-loss associated with manual retrieval methods are virtually eliminated.

AirFASE® Flight Analysis and Safety Explorer

Jointly developed and supported by Teledyne Controls and Airbus, AirFASE® offers a comprehensive measurement, analysis, and reporting tool that can benefit all types of aircraft operators.

Designed to meet the most demanding requirements for FDM (Flight Data Monitoring) - also known as FOM (Flight Operations Monitoring) or FOQA (Flight Operations Quality Assurance) - AirFASE® translates the data collected from an aircraft into meaningful information. By accurately processing and analyzing flight data, AirFASE® allows operators to evaluate flight operations trends, identify risk precursors, and make information-based decisions to enhance operations and increase safety.

AirFASE® performs all the major functions of the flight data monitoring process, including data processing, flight analysis and reporting, and flight data animation.

AirFASE® Transcription Program decodes the recorded data and translates the information into engineering values.

A sophisticated Flight Analysis Program (FAP) enables to quickly and easily reconstruct the flight, compare the recorded data with the recommended values retrieved from the flight profile, and highlight abnormal events and deviations.

Advanced AirFASE® Visualization Tools, including 3D animation, allow for the easy replay and review of flight information, while a powerful and user-configurable Reporting Module provides a suite of comprehensive and customizable reports.

Data Security
To ensure data security, AirFASE® has the capability to de-identify flight data, leaving the de-identified fields only viewable by authorized users.

AirFASE® supports a wide range of data recording devices and can virtually handle all types of recording media available on the market today. Learn more about Teledyne Controls' data acquisition and data transfer products.

Airbus and Teledyne Controls Release AirFASE™

LOS ANGELES, CA - October 1, 2004 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY) and Airbus announced today the official release of their Flight Analysis and Safety Explorer AirFASE™. This jointly developed and supported Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) system is designed to assist aircraft operators conducting flight operations, safety management, and aircraft maintenance programs to reduce incidents and meet new regulatory authorities' requirements.

Airbus and Teledyne Controls have started to deliver AirFASE to 23 committed airlines using already-existing flight data analysis products from both Airbus and Teledyne Controls.

The new product's availability was made official after the successful beta testing of AirFASE with Airbus and Boeing aircraft at two commercial airlines, TUI Group's German arm Hapag-Lloyd, and Finland flag carrier Finnair. "After over two years of extensive development, working in close collaboration with Airbus, we are pleased to release a product as comprehensive as AirFASE," said Tamas Igloi, director of Advanced Programs for Teledyne Controls. "AirFASE provides a robust flight data measurement, analysis and reporting software tool that can benefit aircraft operators."

"AirFASE is a step forward in flight safety management, which is at the core of the Airbus policy. The product proposes ease of use that will allow very easy deployment to all types of airlines," said Patrick Gavin, executive vice-president of Airbus Customer Services.

Based on the long-standing and effective experience of Airbus and Teledyne in the field of flight safety product development, AirFASE offers a service-proven flight data analysis solution. The new system is designed to translate aircraft data into meaningful information, allowing operators to evaluate flight operations trends, identify risk precursors, and therefore take information-based preventive/corrective actions. AirFASE also enables airlines to maintain their flight operations monitoring programs and harmonize them with regulatory agencies' recommendations and requirements, including Amendment 26 to ICAO Annex 6 Part 1, JAR-OPS1, and FAA Flight Operations Quality Assurance Program, 14 CFR Part 13.

AirFASE performs all the major functions of the flight data analysis process. A sophisticated Flight Analysis Program (FAP) reconstructs the flight, compares actual data with recommended values, and highlights abnormal events and deviations. Advanced visualization tools, including 3D animation, allow for the easy review of flight information, while a powerful and configurable reporting editor delivers comprehensive and customizable reports.
